Venue: 9 TVERSKOY BOULEVARD, MOSCOW

The Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the International Festival-School of Contemporary Art TERRITORIЯ present a project of Dmitry Volkostrelov «DAILY ROUTINE. SIMPLE DOINGS».

The several year partnership of MMOMA with the Festival TERRITORIЯ has resulted in the fusion of theater and contemporary art in the Museum space providing a platform for new art practices and expansion of boundaries and possibilities of art. The successful joint
projects exhibited in various venues of Moscow and curated by Oleg Kulik and Ruslan Malikov, Ksenia Peretrukhina and Brett Baily are a good proof of the cooperation. This year the tradition of the interdisciplinary practice is continued with an experiment of the theater director, founder of the theater Post Dmitry Volkostrelov, whose art show «The Daily Routine. Simple Doings» will be his first experience in the organization of an exhibition project.

The exhibition aims to focus the viewer on ordinary elements of our daily life: tying of shoe laces, hand washing, door opening with a key, making tea — simple everyday things, which we used to do automatically. Why not try to draw attention to the details of these rituals? Dmitry Volkostrelov puts the daily routine in the pure space of the Museum to actualize things considered unimportant, boring and insensible, to return our interest in the everyday life.

In his experimental performances Dmitry Volkostrelov has always been exploring new ways of attracting the viewer. For the first time acting in the museum space as a curator, the theater director has rejected usual exposition designs. The viewer finds himself at the center of a dramatic act and from a passive spectator becomes a co-author of the project. Like a theater performance, the exhibition «Daily Routine. Simple Doings» is a piece of art emerging in its full with the appearance of the first visitor and ceasing its existence when the last visitor leaves the hall.

The cameras will constantly record the behavior of the viewers throughout the exhibition thus transferring their ordinary actions into the space of artistic reflection of the reality — the one which we are accustomed to ignore.

The project comprises a vast education program. The logical continuation of the exhibition will be performances of the theater Post at MMOMA, 10 Gogolevsky Boulevard, from October 25-30, 2016 including the premiere of «We Are Already Here» performance based on the text of Pavel Pryazhko.
