The Moscow Museum of Modern Art presents the exhibition by Valentina Kaznetsova, a member of the Russian Artists’ Union, the Honored Artist of the Republic of Bashkortostan, a silver medalist and a diploma winner of the Russian Academy of Arts, a painter, a ceramist, and a graphic artist.
Valentina Kuznetsova was born in Bashkiria. She graduated from the Ufa College of Art, and from the Department of Art Theory and History at the Ilya Repin State Academic Institute of Fine Arts. She has been working with ceramics since late 1970-s.
The creative world of Valentina Kuznetsova is poetic and spiritual, her key subject being the eternal and the habitual — love and the miracle of life. Kuznetsova’s art addresses the inner world of people, it looks closely at their faces. Her characters are lovers and observers, the mother and child, young girls carrying flowers and fruit, mythic birds and animals. She refers to herself as the «artist of the norm». «It’s normal to love and be loved,» says the artist. her art is devoid of heightened tension, but is filled with joy.
The artist’s favorite media are chamotte and faience. Valentina Kuznetsova has an impressive understanding of the material, which allows her to create amazingly expressive art images. The soft, delicate lines wonderfully render the mood of her characters. Valentina Kuznetsova complements her sculptures with glaze and metal salts painting.
The exhibition will have a display of over 100 works, presented at 3 museum halls, thus highlighting 3 thematic cycles — the early works from the 1980-s, the works dated 2000 and later, and the Evangelical cycle, especially valued by the artist. Other works on display will include graphic works, and floor-to-ceiling espalier-like paintings, which frame the sculptures, as well as photographs of the artist’s house interiors.
