Moscow Museum of Modern Art and “Vmeste” Gallery present the solo exhibition of Petr Bronfin, renowned architect, artist and creator of animated cartoons. Bronfin was born and grew up in Moscow, graduated from the Moscow Institute of Architecture, worked for architectural workshops, took part in different theatre and cinema projects. Bronfin’s pieces are in the stream of Russian Avant-garde tradition, mostly influenced by aesthetic concepts of Suprematism. Today Petr Bronfin is the successor and devoted follower of classical values of Kazimir Malevich and Ilya Chashnik, as well as poetics of Daniil Kharms and Alexander Vvedensky, although he provokes creative polemics with his spiritual teachers. Active artistic evolution and free experience of its multilayer space shine through the plastic culture of the artist. Paintings and graphics by Bronfin are always minimalistic in their media, but still marked with distinctive mastership of treatment. His works lack of analytical reflection, but the author succeeds in brightly imparting the emotional and sometimes ironical view on the current events.

The “City” project unites two exhibitions located at different venues. At the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, more than 30 paintings will be presented, while at the “Vmeste” Gallery black-and-white graphic pieces and some “colourful” works will be on display. Moreover, in the courtyard of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, a new work by Bronfin – a triptych named “Family”, set on a large-format banner – will be shown.

Bronfin’s work in animated movies deserves a special consideration: in 2005, his film “City” won the first prize for Best Artistic Expression at the Festival of Animated Cinema in Suzdal. During the whole period of the exhibition, the demonstration of this film will be organized.

Colorful catalogue in Russian and English will accompany the exhibition.
