The Moscow Museum of Modern Art within the Special Program of V Moscow International Biennale of Young Art presents an exhibition of the graduates of the Free Workshops School — Between Us. The Space of Reminiscences where the artists think about the interaction of the spatial environment and human memory.
The project focuses on the problem of the symbiosis of the external and internal considering variations and boundaries of their co-existence. The phrase «between us» included in the exhibition’s name contains an ambiguity, polysemy and flexibility of interpretations: it is a conspiratorial feeling of the intimacy of the reported; it is an initiation inside some community; it is a bright spatial image that unites, but maybe on the other way around — separates, reveals intolerance and rejection. The space «between» can build clear boundaries and, maybe on the contrary, blur them reducing to a complete destruction. The three sections of the exhibition deal with three stages of a possible debate within the problem of the contact of the environment and personal memories inviting the viewer to engage in a dialogue, which occurs between the artists and exhibition space «inhabited» by their memories.
The project «Between Us. The Space of Reminiscences» in MMOMA is a special young artists’ look at the processes of self-identification, contact and co-existence of individuals inside a group of people. Obtaining a material weight and volume in the artists’ works the memories are transformed into a kind of archive, where the processes of the birth of an intimate personal connection between people or complete impossibility of such a contact are subject to cataloging and classification, and the phenomenon of memory itself — to a deep understanding.
The graduates of the «School of Curators», special program of the School of Contemporary Art Free Workshops will also take part in the exposition.
