The wish to enter the wonderful state of idleness is a frequent trespasser of all geographical borders. When you are young and the end of times is still invisible on the horizon, you have a chance to develop a completely happy way of living. The title of this project was born by chance, when a very young girl was watching a dog lazing carelessly in the sun. ‘Wonders of idleness’, noted the girl with apparent appreciation.
Curator Nelya Korzhova says: ‘Later, when I offered this phrase as a project title for young artists, I noticed happiness flash in their eyes. It was a pure joy of answering ‘Nothing’ to the question ‘What would you like to do?’ Walking through the city, browsing it with the camera, thinking about your prolonged growing-up, about your flesh, passing slowly from thoughts to movement and experience... And then the ‘hidden’ comes into young art. ‘Wonders of Idleness’ is a metaphor of a young artist’s being’.
The project presents a complex image of people of different ages who are united under the term ‘young’. Visually, it is a pavilion situated inside the display, as a separate sculpture that you can walk around. Artworks are exhibited inside and outside the pavilion.
